Pastoral

Pastoral care is central to students’ progress and learning at Seahaven Academy. We believe that every student should strive to be the best that they can in every respect and the pastoral system seeks to provide a framework of care, guidance and support for our students to assist them in their personal and academic development.

The pastoral system is organised in year groups.  Tutors have a very important role, they take groups of around 30 students and meet with students every morning for half an hour and during this time students are prepared for the day ahead They have a structured programme of activities to support personal development.  PSHE is delivered throughout the term in discreet lessons beyond the half hour tutor period, covering vital topics such as financial capability, careers, democracy, relationships and physical and mental health.

Each year group has a Key Stage Director to oversee the rewards, behaviour management, attendance and wellbeing of students and a non-teaching Pastoral Lead who is the first point of contact for parents and can be available to support students and sign post to support services within, and beyond the school if required.  Within the school we are lucky to have both a counsellor and a Mental Health Practitioner to help students to address concerns and worries and to learn strategies to support their wellbeing.

We have close links with many local services including youth services, health and emergency services who all contribute to our PSHE programmes and are able to support individual students and families.  Referrals to these services are overseen by our Pastoral Support Manager.

Seahaven is a caring and welcoming school and we work hard to ensure that students are safe, happy and able to work to fulfil their potential.
