- How many hours of drama do we have over the two week timetable?
Two hours a fortnight
- Can Year 7 be involved in the School Production?
Yes, any year group can be involved in the production
- Is drama mainly practical in Year 7 or do we have written work?
It is mainly practical but there is a workbook that is kept through Year 7 to understand skills that have been used
- Can I do lighting or stage management for the school production instead of acting?
Yes, there will be opportunities to be involved in the technical side of theatre
- Can I study drama at GCSE in the future?
Yes, we offer drama at GCSE in Year 10
Music
Why study Music?
- Musical training helps develop language, reasoning and numerical skills.
- Learning to play an instrument helps to develop the memory and hand-eye coordination
- Students develop the skills to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. They learn to take risks, to improve and perform their work with increasing confidence.
- Music develops discipline, creativity and encourages thinking outside the box.
- Music is fun! It provides students with a sense of achievement and can help them stay engaged in school.

- How many hours of music do they have a week?
Students in years 7,8 & 9 receive 2 hours music a fortnight
- Can they learn to play instruments at school?
Yes. Peripatetic teachers from the East Sussex Music Service come in to teach.
- Do they need to bring in their own instruments to school?
No. We have a very well-resourced department with instruments and practice rooms that the students can use by arrangement.
- Do you run any extracurricular activities?
Yes - there is a singing group and different instrumental groups that run throughout the year. We work closely with the drama department and put on an annual school production. There are plenty of opportunities for students to nurture and showcase their talents.
- Are students able to take music as an option subject?
Yes. Students follow the BTEC music course which has a strong practical element and provides a great framework for ongoing musical development.
