Our aim is to provide a curriculum that is both interesting and useful to students, regardless of whether they wish to continue their studies in the science field or take up a science related career. We want all students to feel valued and successful in Science by challenging and supporting all to achieve their very best. Students are offered the opportunity to visit museums and exhibitions, botanical gardens, local sixth form providers and Universities. We also welcome all STEAM opportunities and invitations, to increase their Science Capital. We want our students to be enthused by the ideas and concepts they learn and have the desire to want to find out more. We offer a range of extra-curricular clubs: Science Club where students can work towards their CREST Awards, STEM clubs where students encounter a range of engineering challenges, and the Gardening Club where students can maintain the plant beds, carry out nature surveys and learn more about the natural world.
We teach a broad and balanced science curriculum which means we teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics throughout both key stages. In Year 7 students are introduced to the key concepts of Cells, Energy, Particles and Forces. We build on these fundamental topics throughout KS3 and they form the basis of the GCSE courses. Throughout students’ working scientifically skills are developed through experimentation and problem solving.
